What is the “Fachschaft”?

Die Fachschaft ist alles Mögliche, je nachdem in welchem Kontext der Begriff verwendet wird. Es bezeichnet zum einen den Fachschaftsrat, der jedes Jahr von den Studierenden gewählt wird. Es bezeichnet auch die aktiven Leute, die bei der Fachschaftsarbeit helfen, es ist aber auch der Fachschaftsraum E1.312. Aber auch ihr seid die Fachschaft, denn damit wird auch die Gesamtheit aller Studierenden unserer Fakultät bezeichnet. Unter anderem wird die O-Phase von der Fachschaft Mathe/Info organisiert. Einige Fachschaftsmitglieder habt ihr vielleicht auch schon kennengelernt: Als Teamer, als Organisatoren oder als die mit dem „Frag-mich-ich-gebe-Auskunft“-Gesicht. The Fachschaft is all sorts of things, depending on the context in which the term is used. On the one hand, it refers to the student council, which is elected by the students every year. It also refers to the active people who help with the student council work, but it is also the student council office E1.312. But you (as the students) are also the Fachschaft, because it also refers to the entirety of all students in our faculty. Among other things, the German “Welcome week” is organized by the Maths/CS student council. You may have already met some of the members of the student council: as organisers or as those with the “ask-me-for-information” face. See also General about student bodies.

Wir freuen uns immer, wenn jemand bei unseren Sitzungen oder in der übrigen Zeit im Fachschaftsraum E1.312 vorbeischaut. Unsere offiziellen Öffnungszeiten sind montags bis freitags zwischen 13:00 und 14:00 Uhr, aber auch sonst ist das Büro fast immer besetzt. Auf unserer Homepage könnt ihr anhand der Tür oben rechts in der Ecke überprüfen, ob jemand in der Fachschaft anwesend ist. Ihr könnt uns dann mit euren Problemen und Fragen überhäufen, euer Druckerguthaben aufladen, Tee oder Kaffee trinken, Prüfungsprotokolle und Klausuren der letzten Jahre ausleihen oder einfach nur mit uns quatschen.

We are always happy if someone drops by at our meetings or during the rest of the time in E1.312. Our official opening hours are Mondays to Fridays between 13:00 and 14:00, but even otherwise the office is almost always manned. On our homepage you can check if someone is present in the office by looking at the door in the upper right corner. You can then pester us with your problems and questions, recharge your printer credit, drink tea or coffee, borrow exam protocols and exams of the last years or just chat with us.

The student council (FSR)

Die Aufgabe eines Fachschaftsrats (kurz: FSR) ist die Vertretung der Interessen der Studierenden in den ihm zugehörigen Studiengängen. Siehe auch Generelles zu Fachschaftsräten.

The task of a student council (FSR) is to represent the interests of the students in the study programs belonging to it. See also General information on Representative Council.

Aber auch wenn ihr nicht zu diesen Studiengängen gehört habt ihr vielleicht mit Veranstaltungen aus diesen Studiengängen zu tun. Daher könnt ihr euch bei Fragen immer gerne an uns wenden.

The student representative council (FSV)

Die Fachschaftsvertretung der Fakultät EIM behandelt sich mit den Angelegenheiten, die alle Studierende der Fakultät betreffen. Da die Fachschaft EIM in die Fachschaftsräte Elektrotechnik und Mathe / Info unterteilt ist, behandelt die FSV im Wesentlichen finanzielle sowie wahlrechtliche Themen. The Student Representative Council of the Faculty EIM deals with matters that affect all students of the faculty. Since the student council EIM is divided into the student councils Electrical Engineering and Math/CS, the FSV mainly deals with financial as well as electoral issues. Noch mehr freuen wir uns, wenn jemand bei uns aktiv werden will. Wir vertreten eure Interessen (also die der Studierenden der Institute Mathematik und Informatik) gegenüber der Universität und dem AStA. Wenn es Probleme mit Dozent*innen geben sollte, stehen wir euch mit Rat und Tat zur Seite. Wir senden Vertreter*innen in die verschiedenen Gremien der Fakultät und organisieren die O-Phase. Wer sich für ein Thema oder Event interessiert, ist herzlich eingeladen mitzuwirken. Wie ihr merkt, wir haben einiges zu tun und freuen uns über helfende Hände! Schaut einfach in unserem Fachschaftsraum vorbei, wir beißen auch nicht ;)

We are even more pleased if someone wants to become active with us. We represent your interests (i.e. those of the students of the institutes of mathematics and computer science) towards the university and the AStA. If there are any problems with lecturers, we will help you with words and deeds. We send representatives to the different committees of the faculty and organize the Welcome week. If you are interested in a topic or event, you are welcome to participate. As you can see, we have a lot to do and are looking forward to helping hands! Just drop by in our student council office, we don’t bite either ;)
